Transport Canada: Exciting Changes with New BVLOS Regulations

Transport Canada has announced groundbreaking changes to Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) regulations, set to take effect in the fall of 2025.
Previously, all BVLOS operations required a case-by-case approval process, which often led to delays and increased operational costs. The new framework streamlines this process for low-risk BVLOS missions, enabling AeroVision to deploy drones faster and with greater flexibility.
The demand for advanced drone services is growing exponentially, and the regulatory changes will allow AeroVision to expand our capabilities in unprecedented ways. With fewer barriers to BVLOS operations, we can now offer wider-area mapping which will result in enhanced data intelligence collection.
BVLOS and Disaster & Emergency
A particularly exciting prospect is the expansion of our disaster and emergency response services. Currently we are authorized for BVLOS flights to help battle Canadian wildfires only.
Our drones can deploy instantly, scanning vast areas in a fraction of the time it would take on-foot teams. Compared to helicopters, drones offer a more cost-effective and precise solution, operating at lower altitudes for high-resolution mapping and real-time intelligence gathering.
This critical data allows emergency response teams to target resources more effectively, ensuring that aid and personnel are deployed where they are needed most—reducing response times and maximizing impact.
With the new BVLOS regulations, our drones will be able to cover larger disaster zones and access challenging or remote locations that would otherwise be difficult or dangerous for ground teams to reach. Whether it’s assessing wildfire spread, surveying flood-damaged infrastructure, or searching for missing persons in rugged terrain, drones provide responders with the situational awareness needed to make informed, strategic decisions.
Our team is actively working on integrating the latest drone technology to ensure we make the most of these new opportunities. With the potential to provide faster, safer, and better services, AeroVision is ready to take the future of BVLOS operations to new heights.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to evolve and enhance our services under these exciting new regulations!
